Cemetery Policy

The Office Administrator of St. Paul’s Parish handles all inquiries, maintains cemetery records and conducts general business matters for the cemetery.

Graves may be reserved only when there is a reasonable cause to believe they will be actually used. At the time of reservation, a grave number will be given only if the purchaser intends to erect a headstone or monument within six months of purchase. If such an agreement is broken by the purchaser, the Cemetery Committee has the right to withdraw the reservation. In the case of reservation without the erection of a headstone, the grave number will be given when the use of the grave is required. All reserved graves must be paid for at the time of reservation or reservation will not be accorded. The number of graves one person may reserve will be limited, depending upon circumstances and availability, as well as the demands of Cemetery maintenance and upkeep. Perpetual Care is in effect when the grave site is assigned.

Upkeep of the Cemetery is the responsibility of St. Paul’s Parish and not individuals or families who have purchased graves or who have loved ones buried there. However, your suggestions for beautifying the grounds and for maintaining them well are always welcome. To facilitate good maintenance, to protect headstones and machinery necessary for this task, the Parish of St. Paul’s has adopted the following policy:

• If flowers are placed on the grave, they must be close to and in front of the headstone
• Shurbs and trees may not be planted
• Fences around the graves are not permitted, nor are corner markers of any type

We highly recommend a suitable headstone for all graves, and have the following policy with regard to them:

• Consult the caretaker or Parish Office before placing of any headstone or monument.
• A policy of one stone or marker per grave is in force, or one per plot when this is desired.
• The plots for the tradional section are 3’ x 9’ (36 x 81”). The maximum size base for a headstone will be 30"- 34”. If a larger headstone is desired, than a second plot will have to be purchased.
• All headstones must have a gravel foundation and should be installed by a reputable dealer.
• Homemade markers or crosses must be made in a respectable fashion. Their placement should be checked with the caretaker before installation. Markers that have fallen into poor condition will be removed by staff when neglect is evident and serious. Responsibility for headstones/markers is that of the owner or family.
• All other articles which may impede the general maintenance of the graveyard, detract from the aesthetic atmosphere, or invite vandalism, i.e. lights, statues, unattached monuments, are prohibited.

The plots for the cremation section are 3’ x 6’ (36” x 72”). The maximum size base for a headstone will be 30”. If a larger headstone is desired, than a second plot will have to be purchased. The policy/expectations in the cremation section regarding reserved graves, cemetery upkeep, headstones and monuments will be the same as in the regular cemetery section. A maximum of three (3) cremated remains may be buried in a single cremation plot.
